19 Years On, Leon Forbes’ Killer Still At Large

Just after midnight on 7 December 2003, 21-year-old music producer Leon Forbes was gunned down in a Clapham car park. Leon was on his way to show off his latest CD to a friend when gunfire shattered the night.

Shot in the neck while sitting in his mother’s black Vauxhall Astra, Leon was rushed to hospital but tragically died hours later. His promising career and young family were cruelly cut short.

Family Pleads for Justice After Two Decades

Detective Chief Inspector Amanda Greig of the Met’s Specialist Casework Team urged anyone with info to come forward. “Leon’s family have waited nearly 20 years for justice,” she said. “Circumstances have changed—now might be the time to speak up. Your tips will be treated in strict confidence. If you want to remain anonymous, you can contact CrimeStoppers.”

Leon’s mum Michelle – a tireless anti-gun campaigner and co-founder of Mothers Against Guns – sadly passed away last year, never seeing justice served.

“Leon was only 21 when he was brutally murdered. He had a bright future ahead, renting studio space in London and competing in the Mobo Unsung finals. He was a proud dad and was due to welcome his second child,” said DCI Greig.

Sister’s Heartbreaking Memories: “It Feels Like Yesterday”

Leon’s sister Erica recalled the terrifying night vividly. “The smells, sounds, terror – I cannot forget. My mum and I took turns trying to give him CPR. That night changed everything forever. Mum never saw those responsible caught. It’s now my mission to get justice for them both.”

She added, “Leon was young, confident and loved by all who met him. If you know anything, please come forward. Some of you may have children the same age Leon was when he was taken.

“Leon would have turned 41 on 20 December, but to us, he stays forever 21. We’ve waited long enough. It’s time for answers and closure.”

The Shooting: What Happened That Night?

On 6 December, Leon invited a friend to his Daley Thompson Way home to listen to his new CD. Around 12:15am, they left together in his mother’s car.

As they exited the car park, a man stood in front of a stationary car with headlights on. Suddenly, shots rang out, striking Leon. The car crashed nearby, and Leon slumped over the wheel.

  • Witnesses saw two cars, a red and a silver one, speeding from the scene.
  • The silver car was described as a ‘new shape’ Saab.
  • Leon’s friend ran to alert his mother, who rushed to the scene with family to attempt first aid before paramedics arrived.

Leon was pronounced dead at 9:20am on 7 December 2003 from his injuries.

Police Appeal: Who Killed Leon Forbes?

Five people were arrested soon after but released without charges. The case remains open.
