Oxford Circus Stabbing: Skateboard Heroes Urgently Sought
Police were called just before 8pm on Thursday, 1 July after a man was stabbed near Oxford Circus, close to Regent Street, W1.
Officers, along with London Ambulance and Air Ambulance, found 60-year-old Stephen with stab wounds. He was rushed to hospital but sadly died.
Two Skateboarders Helped Catch Suspect – Now Police Want to Talk
Two men on skateboards bravely stepped in to stop the attacker. However, they left the scene before police arrived and remain unidentified.
Their crucial role only came to light after a CCTV review. Police believe they could be key witnesses and are urging them to come forward.
Family Pleads for Skateboarders to Speak Out
Beryl Dempsey, Stephen’s mother, said: “I feel lost for words. I keep expecting him to walk back through the door. He looked after me. I depended on him for so much. I miss him terribly.”
“I want to personally thank the two men who tried to save his life. Your actions were heroic. Please come forward and help police with their enquiries.”
Detectives Praise Courage, Ask for Witnesses to Speak
Detective Chief Inspector Vicky Tunstall said: “These two individuals showed immense courage by stepping in to stop a violent attack. Their actions were reasonable, and we want to speak to them as witnesses.”
“Coming forward will greatly help the investigation.”
