Sheffield Murder: Fifth Arrest Made in Macaulay Byrne Case
Bovic Mupolo, 21, from Fluery Rise, Gleadless, Sheffield, was arrested yesterday and charged today (Wednesday 2 March) with murder. He is now in custody and will appear at Sheffield Magistrates Court tomorrow.
Police Tighten Net: Total Arrests Reach Five
This latest arrest brings the total number of suspects in the case to five. Earlier police swooped on Gleadless premises on Monday 14 January, arresting three men:
- A 32-year-old man on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and possession of firearms
- Two men, aged 59 and 33, on suspicion of assisting an offender
All three were granted bail but remain under investigation as police gather more evidence.
Fourth suspect Layton Morris, 26, of Sidney Street, Mexborough, was previously charged with assisting an offender and remains held in custody.
Detective Credits ‘Tireless’ Team for Breakthrough
“The investigation team have been working tirelessly to ensure that all parties involved in the murder of Macaulay are identified and dealt with accordingly,”
said DCI Mick Hakin, leading the probe. He called the latest charge a “significant milestone” in the case.
Tragic Death of Macaulay Byrne
Macaulay Byrne, 21, known as Coley, suffered fatal stab wounds at the Gypsy Queen pub on Drake Lane in Beighton at around 10pm on 26 December 2021. Despite being rushed to hospital, he later died of his injuries. His funeral took place last month at Hutcliffe Wood Crematorium in Woodseats.
