Met Police Staff Under Scrutiny Over Sarah Everard Case

The heartbreaking case of Sarah Everard, the 33-year-old marketing executive who vanished walking home in Clapham on 3 March, has taken a new twist. Her body was found a week later in woodland in Kent, and now more than 30 Met Police officers and staff face an investigation for accessing case files without clear cause.

Unauthorized Access Could Be Criminal

The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards is probing those who viewed the sensitive investigation files. A police spokeswoman warned that accessing these records “without a legitimate reason” could breach professional standards or even be a criminal offence.

“Officers and staff needed access to computer records but were only permitted to review specific information,” she said. “Once all the responses have been received, a decision will be taken as to whether any further action is required.”

PC Wayne Couzens Charged with Kidnap and Murder

PC Wayne Couzens, 48, from Deal, Kent, stands accused of kidnapping and murdering Sarah Everard. He is due to appear at the Old Bailey for a plea hearing on 9 July, with a provisional trial date set for 25 October.
