Flood Chaos Strikes Fordingbridge and Godshill
Drivers were warned off the roads yesterday as severe flooding battered Fordingbridge and nearby areas. Fallen trees, downed power lines, and deep standing water brought travel to a grinding halt.
The Fordingbridge Neighbourhood Policing Team urged locals to avoid all non-essential journeys and “stay home if possible.” They highlighted dangerous water levels on roads across the region.
Cars Stranded and Swept Away in Floodwaters
- Near Ringwood, two cars became stuck in deep floodwater close to Poulner Primary School and Tesco.
- Police slammed reckless lorry drivers speeding through flooded zones, creating wash that drenched pedestrians, smashed into buildings, and endangered other vehicles.
- At Godshill, two drivers tried to brave a flooded ford but faced raging currents. One car was swept downstream and stranded under a footbridge.
Thanks to quick action by locals and Hampshire Fire and Rescue, the trapped driver was rescued safe and sound. The incident serves as a serious warning against underestimating flood dangers.
Police Slam Risk-Taking Drivers: Don’t Drive Through Floods!
Officers are pleading for drivers to stay away from flooded fords completely. “NEVER attempt to drive through fords in flood,” they stressed. “It’s far better to be late or abandon your journey than to risk your life.”
Motorists are urged to stay prepared by checking weather and road alerts, dressing for bad conditions, and packing essentials like food, water, blankets, a torch, extra fuel, and a fully charged phone. Vehicles should be inspected for flood readiness before hitting the road.
“Cars can be replaced, people cannot,” the Fordingbridge Neighbourhood Policing Team reminded all drivers.
