Man Stabbed to Death in South Yorkshire Street Brawl
Tragedy struck in Monk Bretton, near Barnsley, as 41-year-old Alan Sutton was fatally stabbed during a violent street fight. Emergency services rushed to Burton Road on Sunday, 1 September, after reports of a brutal clash involving several men.
Five Arrested Over Fatal Stabbing
South Yorkshire Police confirmed Mr Sutton died from suspected stab wounds to the chest. The investigation quickly led to five arrests. On Sunday, a 19-year-old woman and two men aged 21 and 32 were arrested on suspicion of murder.
Further arrests followed on Monday: a 41-year-old man was detained on suspicion of affray and assault, while a 40-year-old man had earlier been arrested for affray, criminal damage, possession of an offensive weapon, and assault.
One Suspect Remains in Custody
Police have revealed that the 21-year-old male suspect is still in custody. The other four have been released on bail as enquiries continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Ben Wood said: “The investigation into Alan Sutton’s death is continuing at pace. We made several arrests within hours of the incident and are keen to hear from anyone with any information that could help our investigation.”
