Father Jailed for 15 Years Over Baby Son’s Tragic Death

David Hollick, 29, from Walsall, has been handed a 15-year prison sentence for the manslaughter of his six-month-old son, Kairo Hollick. The heartbreaking case, which shocked the local community, was heard at Birmingham Crown Court.

Shocking Abuse Uncovered at Birmingham Children’s Hospital

On February 9, 2020, Kairo was found unresponsive by his father at their home. David Hollick claimed he shook his son in an attempt to revive him, but tragically it was too late. Kairo was rushed to Birmingham Children’s Hospital, where he died three days later.

Medical exams revealed horrific injuries: bleeding on the brain, two complex skull fractures, and a fractured arm. All pointed to severe physical abuse inflicted by his father.

Father’s Excuses Fall Flat in Court

During the trial, Hollick gave conflicting stories. Initially silent about how Kairo was hurt, he later claimed the baby was injured when he fell while holding him. The jury rejected his defence and found him guilty of manslaughter.

Mourning Family Demand Justice

Kairo’s mother, who was not living with Hollick at the time, delivered a gut-wrenching statement at sentencing. She said:

“It has been four years since we lost Kairo, and our hearts remain shattered. He deserved safety and care from his father, and he deserved to be with us today. The brutality inflicted on Kairo will haunt our family forever. Kai was the light of our lives, the embodiment of innocence. Without him, we are broken.”

The harsh sentence sends a clear warning: child abuse and neglect will not be tolerated. As the community grieves, the focus must stay on protecting vulnerable children and preventing further tragedies like Kairo’s death.
