Ex-Met cop hit with blackmail charges over £10k demand
Mohammad Raza charged after alleged police abuse
Mohammad Raza, 27, a former Metropolitan Police officer from Walthamstow, has been charged with making a £10,000 blackmail demand. The scandal stems from serious allegations of misconduct while he was on duty.
Raza served with the North West Command Unit covering Barnet, Brent, and Harrow. He faces charges including blackmail, unauthorised computer access, and misconduct in public office.
Abuse of police powers exposed
Investigators say Raza used police systems to illicitly access information about a family under investigation. He then allegedly demanded £10,000 from one member of that family.
The offences reportedly took place between March and April 2022 while Raza was still serving. His arrest came on October 19, 2022, after a probe by the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards.
Raza was suspended pending investigation and resigned from the force in March 2023.
Met Police slam ex-officer’s conduct
A Met Police spokesperson confirmed the charges:
“Following an investigation by officers from the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards, former PC Mohammad Raza, 27, attached to the North West Command Unit, was charged on August 25 with blackmail, computer misuse, and misconduct in public office.”
The police revealed Raza exploited his position for personal gain, raising serious red flags about abuse of trust within law enforcement.
Victims left distressed as blackmail case unfolds
Raza’s actions have caused severe distress to those targeted by the alleged blackmail attempt. The case underscores the urgent need for accountability among public officials and the police.
