Hastings Man Jailed for 10 Years Over Shocking Rape
Nathan Ackerley, 28, from Hastings, has been locked up for a decade after being found guilty of raping a woman as she slept, Sussex Police confirmed.
Attack and Immediate Arrest
Ackerley took the victim back to his home before attacking her. She woke up during the ordeal, managed to flee, and promptly reported the crime to police.
Sussex Police swiftly tracked down and arrested Ackerley on suspicion of rape. Investigators uncovered damning evidence on his phone, including photos of the woman taken while she was unconscious.
“Our search found images of the victim asleep. He was charged with rape, sexual assault by touching, sexual assault by penetration, and voyeurism,” a police spokesperson said.
Sentencing and Legal Orders
On July 19, Ackerley was convicted on all counts. He was sentenced on July 22 to 10 years in prison, required to serve at least two-thirds of this term.
He was also slapped with a restraining order banning any contact with the victim and must register on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
Victim Praises Police and Urges Others to Speak Out
After the verdict, the victim thanked Sussex Police for their unwavering support. She urged other victims to come forward, saying,
“I hope others feel they can report crimes like this. I wanted to stop this happening to anyone else, and hopefully, we have.”
