Met Police Officer Arrested Over Sexual Assault in Westminster
A serving Met Police constable has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault in central London.
Off-Duty Cop Nabbed in Early Morning Bust
The officer, part of the local policing team in Westminster, was arrested at around 4am on Tuesday, 16 January 2024, on Villiers Street. He was off-duty at the time of the alleged offence.
Bailed and Restricted From Duty
After being taken into custody, the officer was later bailed pending further inquiries, with a return date set for March. The Met’s professional standards unit is handling the case.
The officer has been placed on restricted duties, barring him from any face-to-face public contact or involvement in sexual assault investigations while the probe continues.
Police Chief Vows Full Investigation
Chief Superintendent Louise Puddefoot, central London policing commander, said: “I recognise an allegation against a serving officer will cause significant concern. I want to reassure the public that immediate steps have been taken to investigate the claim thoroughly. It would be inappropriate to comment further while enquiries are ongoing.”
