Lorry driver jailed for deadly road rage near Bordon
A Milton Keynes lorry driver has been locked up for causing a fatal crash after a reckless move in East Worldham. Lewis Lodge, 39, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving at Winchester Crown Court.
Minor crash sparks deadly drama
On July 21, Lodge was hauling an HGV along Green Street when he clipped a Citroen C3 driven by Choudhry Sadaqat, 35, from Farnham. The pair got out and exchanged heated words. But things took a deadly turn when Lodge climbed back into his lorry.
Deadly decision on the road
Ignoring Sadaqat standing in front of his vehicle, Lodge tried to manoeuvre around him. The court heard this was a reckless move anyone with common sense could see was unsafe, especially with a large truck.
Sadaqat suffered life-threatening injuries and sadly died in hospital on July 25. Lodge was sentenced to four years and eight months behind bars and banned from driving for over six years.
Police warn: patience saves lives
“This was a crash that could have been avoided,” said Sgt Mark Furse of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit.
“Mr Lodge’s reckless decision has left a family devastated. If only he had stopped and thought, Mr Sadaqat might still be alive today.”
“Losing patience behind the wheel can have tragic consequences. No matter how frustrated you feel, it’s never worth risking a life. Stop, breathe, and drive safely.”
