A Cambridge man dodged jail after being found with a hefty 7-inch bread knife in public. Jack Walker, 27, was spotted by a sharp-eyed local who quickly flagged down police, leading to his arrest.
Knife Drama Sparks Swift Police Action
The tense moment unfolded on 25 July in Ditton Lane. Officers were alerted by a concerned resident who saw Walker openly brandishing the large blade. When cops confronted him, Walker pulled the knife from his trousers but dropped it immediately as police moved in.
Walker Receives Suspended Sentence and Fine
On 1 December, Walker appeared at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court. He pleaded guilty to:
- Possession of a knife in a public place
- Committing an offence during a suspended sentence period
The judge handed him a 123-day prison sentence suspended for 18 months. Walker was also fined £100 and ordered to undergo a 12-month alcohol treatment programme.
Police Praise Public for Quick Thinking
“Thanks to the vigilance of the public and their quick actions, we were able to stop Walker and remove the knife from the streets,” said PC Morgan Wood, lead investigator.
This incident shows how alert locals play a vital role in keeping Cambridge safe from knife crime.
