Brutal Bexhill Brawl: Man Jailed for Breaking Victim’s Leg in Four Places
A vicious attack in Hastings has landed Jack Ripley behind bars for eight years after he shattered a man’s leg in four places.
Unprovoked Assault on Quiet Sidley Street
On the evening of May 16, 2018, the 56-year-old victim was walking home from shopping along Sidley High Street when Ripley confronted him, asking if they knew each other. When the man said no, Ripley head-butted him before stamping on his leg with such force that it snapped in four places.
The victim collapsed to the ground, enduring ongoing hospital treatment, including surgery to pin his hip.
Ripley Denies Attack, But Evidence Seals His Fate
Despite eyewitnesses and the victim identifying Ripley, the 29-year-old denied being near the scene. However, investigators found enough evidence to charge him with grievous bodily harm with intent in January.
Ripley, unemployed and from Glovers Lane, Bexhill, faced a three-day trial at Hove Crown Court starting June 10. On June 13, the judge handed down an eight-year sentence.
Investigator Hails Justice for Victim
“I am very pleased with this result, especially for the victim, as this was a totally unprovoked attack as he was returning home in the evening,” said Investigator Bernadette Peters. “Ripley stamped on the man with such force it broke his thigh in four places, and the victim is still suffering the repercussions today.”
