Driver Jailed for Hit-and-Run That Killed Teen Moped Rider in North Finchley
A 23-year-old man has been locked up for a year after causing a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of an 18-year-old moped rider in North Finchley. Ali Bahramzadeh was also slapped with a two-and-a-half-year driving ban after admitting careless driving, driving uninsured, and failing to stop following the crash.
Fatal Crash on Ashurst Road
On 17 November 2016, Bahramzadeh took his mother’s Nissan Pixo without permission and was driving along Ashurst Road, North Finchley, with several passengers. At the same time, Alfie O’Keefe-Hedges, 18, from Hatfield, was riding his moped towards a nearby mini roundabout on Buxted Road.
Bahramzadeh’s car collided with Alfie as he entered the roundabout. The impact hurled Alfie over the vehicle. Shockingly, Bahramzadeh and his passengers abandoned the car and fled the scene.
Tragic Aftermath
- Alfie suffered severe head injuries and was treated by the London Ambulance Service at the scene.
- He was rushed to a hospital in east London but succumbed to his injuries eight days later, on 25 November.
- A post-mortem confirmed head injuries as the cause of death.
Justice Served
Bahramzadeh later turned himself in at a north London police station, admitting to hitting the moped. He was charged in May 2017 but only sentenced this month at Wood Green Crown Court. The other passengers in the car remain unidentified.
Detective Constable Rob Simpson said: “We can only hope this sentence brings some small comfort to Alfie’s family, devastated by his loss. Let this be a reminder to drivers to take care and avoid needless tragedies.”
