Man Jailed for Helping Killer of Schoolgirl Olivia Pratt-Korbel
Paul Russell has been locked up for 22 months for aiding Thomas Cashman, the murderer of nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel. The sentencing took place on Wednesday 26 April at Liverpool Crown Court.
Russell Admits Helping Killer Escape
Russell, 41, from Snowberry Road, West Derby, pleaded guilty to assisting an offender. He admitted giving Cashman a lift and moving his clothing after the fatal shooting at Olivia’s home in Dovecot on 22 August last year.
The jury during Cashman’s murder trial were unaware of Russell’s involvement until after the conviction.
Man Turns Himself In After Shocking Crime
Russell handed himself over to police once he realised Cashman had killed Olivia, an innocent child, and not his intended target.
Detective Slams Crime, Praises Russell’s Surrender
“The nation was rightly horrified by the murder of nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel as a consequence of the reckless actions of Thomas Cashman on that night,” said Detective Superintendent Mark Baker.
“Helping someone escape justice after a crime is unforgivable, especially when a child is a victim. Thankfully, Russell did the right thing by turning himself in. His guilty plea spared Olivia’s family the pain of another trial.”
“Cashman will serve at least 42 years for Olivia’s murder. Now Russell will also face time behind bars and must reflect on his role in this tragic event.”
