Man Jailed for Spitting at Cops and Hurling Bottle at Police Horse in Bristol Riot
A 23-year-old has been locked up for his shocking behaviour during last year’s riot in Bristol. Joseph Parry from Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, spat at officers and threw a glass bottle at a police horse. He also tried to rip a door off a mobile police station alongside others.
20 Months Inside for Violent Disorder
Parry faced Bristol Crown Court on Monday, 7th November, where he pleaded guilty to violent disorder. The judge handed him a 20-month prison sentence. He is now the 21st person sent down over the riot, with all of them serving a combined 77 years and nine months behind bars.
Judge Condemns ‘Dehumanising’ Attack in Pandemic
Judge James Patrick acknowledged Parry’s guilty plea, young age, and previous good character. Yet, he slammed his “dehumanising” actions, especially spitting on officers during the pandemic, calling it particularly vile.
Detective Superintendent Blasts Parry’s ‘Naïve’ Rage
Detective Superintendent James Riccio said: “Joseph Parry is a naïve young man who, after drinking alcohol, got caught up in the moment. He spent more than three hours at the scene and had plenty of time and opportunity to walk away yet chose to stay and act aggressively towards police officers trying to maintain order. He has owned up to his actions but there can be no excuses for engaging in violent acts.”
