Longsight Criminal Matthew Carney Jailed After String of Robberies
Matthew Carney, 27, from Mull Avenue, Longsight, has been found guilty of multiple offences. He faced court on Tuesday, October 10, charged with three counts of robbery, two of fraud by false representation, and one burglary.
Robberies Terrorised Longsight Residents
Carney’s crime spree hit Longsight between December 2020 and January 2021. The robberies left local residents shaken.
Police Collaboration Leads to Arrest
Greater Manchester Police teamed up with Lincolnshire Constabulary to track Carney down in Lincolnshire. CCTV footage caught him committing a burglary on Milverton Road in Longsight in September 2021, adding to his charges.
Officer Welcomes Justice for Victims
“Carney is a prolific offender, and I am relieved that he is now off our streets and no longer a danger to the public. These were violent and terrifying robberies for the victims and will no doubt have had a lasting impact on their lives,” said PC Ridgway from GMP’s Neighbourhood Crime team.
“We are committed to ensuring the streets of Greater Manchester are kept safe, and no one should live in fear or feel at risk from criminals.”
