Minicab Driver Faces Ban After Near Miss with Surrey Police While Using Phone
A minicab driver could be off the roads after a shocking near collision with a Surrey police car — all because he was caught using his mobile phone behind the wheel.
Swerving Driver Nearly Clips Police Vehicle
The unnamed driver was seen swerving dangerously across lanes late on Saturday, April 18. He nearly side-swiped a marked police car while holding his phone, prompting officers to step in.
Already on Thin Ice with 9 Points
When Surrey’s Roads Policing Unit stopped him, they discovered the driver already had 9 penalty points on his licence. Now, he faces possible disqualification from the courts.
“Last stop of the shift was a minicab who swerved out his lane and almost side-swiped a marked car… all while holding his phone,” the Surrey Roads Policing Unit tweeted. “The driver has 9 points and has been reported to court for possible disqualification. And no it wasn’t an Uber.”
Mobile Phone Driving: A Costly Mistake
- Using a mobile device while driving can land you a £1,000 fine.
- It also adds 6 points to your licence.
- Reach 12 points and you’re likely to get banned.
This case is a stark warning: texting or calling behind the wheel can have serious consequences — especially when the law is watching.
