‘Neighbour from Hell’ Jailed for Terrorising Elderly in Lancashire Cul-de-Sac

A 35-year-old man, branded the ‘neighbour from hell,’ has been locked up for 18 weeks after tormenting elderly residents in a quiet Longton street.

Liam Bain, wearing a Spiderman mask, hurled abuse, peered through windows and even blasted a 70-year-old woman with a hosepipe.

Shocking Antics Spark Fear and Distress

  • Bain flexed his muscles by his window, shadowboxed topless in the street, and harassed pensioners through their Ring doorbells, triggering alerts while they were out.
  • One terrified older man hid behind a hedge after Bain drove his van threateningly beside him.
  • Night-time chaos saw loud music blaring, lasers shone into homes, and Bain taunted neighbours with chilling threats like, “I’ll still be here when you’re all dead.”
  • His partner and kids joined in, kicking balls into gardens and hurling vile insults, labelling a man a “nonce” and “pervert.”

Community Held Hostage by Bain’s Rampage

The vile behaviour forced many residents to consider selling up, yet they felt trapped. One grandmother said her grandson refused to visit, while another couple retreated to a smaller spare room to escape the harassment.

You have caused the residents of these two streets untold misery without there being any cause for you to behave the way you have,” said Recorder Kevin Slack at Preston Crown Court.

Justice Served: Jail and Banning Order

Bain admitted five counts of harassment. Alongside his 18-week prison term, he’s banned from the street where his partner lives and forbidden from contacting his five victims for five years.

The judge made clear Bain’s campaign of terror was more than childish pranks. Residents feared leaving their homes and visiting neighbours, petrified of what he might do next.

As he was led to the cells, Bain cheekily waved at his partner, who watched from the public gallery—his reign of terror finally halted.

This sentence brings much-needed peace to the elderly of Higher Furlong and Tranmoor streets, who can now hope to live without fear of Bain’s bullying.
