Ex-Terrorist Busted for Hiding Bank Account and Car
Muhammad Abid, 33, from Newham, has been slapped with a two-year, three-month prison sentence. He breached his Terrorism Notification Order, the Old Bailey ruled after a probe by the Met Police’s Counter Terrorism Command.
Missed Reports Land Him Behind Bars Again
Abid failed to notify officers about a bank account he opened and a vehicle he kept but hadn’t registered. These breaches violated the Part 4 Notification Order under the 2008 Counter Terrorism Act. Alongside jail time, Abid faces an extra 12 months on licence.
Met Police Warn of Risk from Terror Offenders
Detective Chief Superintendent Gareth Rees, from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, hammered home the importance of strict monitoring. He said: “These measures are crucial in identifying and managing potential risks posed by individuals previously convicted of terrorism offences. Abid’s failure to comply with the notification order led us to investigate and bring him to justice.”
Jail History and Ongoing Surveillance
- Abid was previously jailed in January 2018 for withholding info on terrorism under the Terrorism Act 2000.
- He got four years and three months and was bound by notification rules for ten years.
- Since his release in August 2021, police kept a close eye on him but raised concerns in March 2022 over his lack of cooperation.
- Searches at two east London addresses turned up new evidence, leading to charges and conviction this April.
Abid now faces a tough stretch behind bars, showing the Met’s zero tolerance for terrorism failings.
