Chief Constable Nick Adderley to Stay on at Northamptonshire Police
Nick Adderley is set to continue as Chief Constable of Northamptonshire Police despite retirement rules. Appointed in August 2018 on a five-year contract, Mr Adderley’s contract was due to end, but complex tax and pension issues made a simple extension costly.
Retire and Return: A Clever Move
Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Stephen Mold has found a workaround. He agreed that Adderley can retire briefly and then return to lead the force. Mold insists Adderley’s leadership is vital to keep driving improvements.
“Nick has demonstrated clear leadership and drive that will ensure stability and create the best conditions for the Force to continue to make progress,” Mold said.
Why Adderley is the Right Man for the Job
- Oversaw record recruitment of extra officers through local and national funding.
- Implemented a policy ensuring every household burglary victim gets a police visit and proper investigation.
- Earned praise from Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary for swift call-handling and accurate recording.
Mold added, “Northamptonshire Police is improving. Nick has clear plans to strengthen neighborhood links, fight crime better, and arrest more offenders. I don’t believe now is the time for a change in Chief Constable.”
Adderley Ready for Continued Fight
“I am delighted to continue as Chief Constable,” said Adderley. “Continuity of leadership is essential to maintain and accelerate our progress. Northamptonshire communities deserve the best policing possible.”
The Commissioner will notify the Police, Fire and Crime Panel that Adderley is his preferred choice. The panel will then hold a confirmation hearing before the appointment is final.
