Police Launch New Search for Missing Hastings Man Jason Martin-Smith
Police have kicked off a major search for the body of Jason Martin-Smith, who vanished in Hastings back in August 2001 at just 28 years old. The case, cold for over two decades, sprang back to life after a fresh, credible tip-off led officers to scour local woodland for any sign of his remains.
Convicted Killer Behind Bars, But No Trace of Jason
Mark Searle was jailed for Jason’s murder, receiving at least 29 years behind bars. Yet, Jason’s body has never been found, leaving his family desperate for answers. Detective Inspector Simon Dunn, leading the investigation, said the latest search could finally bring them some closure.
“We have always welcomed any new information which may tell us the whereabouts of the body, so we can give the victim’s family the answers they’ve waited so long for,” said Dunn. “A viable line of enquiry recently came to light and was followed-up on, which is what has led to this activity.”
Complex Search, Family Kept in the Loop
Dunn warned the search is tricky and could take time, but promised the police are leaving no stone unturned. The victim’s family is being supported and regularly updated on the progress, holding onto hope that this long-running mystery will soon be solved.
After 20 Years, Hope for Justice Remains Strong
Jason Martin-Smith’s disappearance has haunted Hastings for more than 20 years. Finding his remains is the missing piece that could bring his loved ones peace and finally deliver justice for a brutal crime that has lingered too long in the shadows.
