Police release efit after £20,000 stolen in Southsea distraction burglary

£20,000 swiped during clever water scam

Officers have put out an efit image of a man linked to a brazen distraction burglary that cost a 91-year-old victim up to £20,000 in cash. The crime happened between 2.30pm and 3.30pm on Saturday, April 16, in Redwing Court, Southsea.

Scammer posed as water worker to gain entry

The elderly man opened his door to a man claiming to be from the water company, warning that the supply was contaminated. The victim let the man inside and escorted him to the bathroom to check the water.

Accomplice sneaks in and rifles through cash

While the victim was distracted, a second man slipped inside the property and made off with up to £20,000 in cash.

Help police catch the crook

The efit shows the first suspect: a slim, white man in his 30s, around 5ft 10in tall, with dark hair and possibly an Irish accent.

Anyone recognising this man is urged to call police on 101 and quote reference 44160144333.
