Somerstown Teen Stabs Student Four Times – Gets Four Years Behind Bars
A 17-year-old from Somerstown has been slapped with a four-year jail sentence for a brutal stabbing last October. Travis Martin, already serving four years for a separate crime, viciously plunged a knife into a 22-year-old student four times at the junction of Rivers Street and Sedgeley Close.
Student Left Fighting for Life
The victim, a 22-year-old Masters student, was rushed to Southampton General Hospital after the terrifying early morning attack near Edgbaston House at around 4am on Saturday 14th October. The knife hit an artery, tore into his lung, and cut down to the bone in his thigh.
Heroic Intervention Turns Horrific
The victim had stepped in after seeing Martin abuse a young woman near the Somerstown Hub following a night out. For his bravery, he was stabbed in the right thigh, twice in the right shoulder, and once in the back of the neck.
Accomplice Also Jailed
Shawn Owen Griffiths, 19, of Landport, was jailed for three months for using threatening behaviour just before the stabbing. Despite Martin initially pleading not guilty and refusing to hand over the knife, he admitted the offence shortly before the trial.
Judge Timothy Mousley QC reduced Martin’s sentence due to his age, legally still a child, despite the attack’s severity.
