Notorious Orpington Burglar Banged Up for 12 Years
Paul Debenham, 30, a serial burglar preying on the elderly in Orpington, has been slammed with a 12-year prison sentence. The verdict was handed down at Croydon Crown Court on Monday, ending his violent crime spree.
Armed and Dangerous: Hammer and Gun Terrorise Locals
Debenham’s rampage shook the community. Last year, he struck twice in quick succession, armed with a handgun and hammer, robbing vulnerable residents in their own homes.
In one chilling incident, he attacked a woman, pushing her to the ground before stealing her car. Just two days later, he smashed a glass panel with a brick to break into the home of a 96-year-old woman on Blenheim Road. Inside, he threatened her with a hammer, demanding valuables including car keys and jewellery.
Forensics and Sharp Police Work Nabbed the Criminal
Detectives cracked the case thanks to forensic evidence. A box left behind at the Spur Road scene contained a bottle with Debenham’s fingerprints, which led to his swift arrest.
“Debenham was a ruthless criminal who committed crime to fund his lifestyle,” said Investigating Officer PC Rob Melton. “He showed no remorse for the long-lasting impact these offences had on his victims.”
