Medway Crackdown: Thief Locked Up and Suspects Charged as Retail Crime Hits Back
Swift Justice for Prolific Thief
The fight against retail crime in Medway stepped up a gear with a quick jail sentence handed to a repeat offender. Neighbourhood officers teamed up with the town’s Victim Based Crime Team to tackle shop theft head-on, ensuring fast responses and tough charges.
A 26-year-old caught between serious offences, including theft and carrying a knife in public, pleaded guilty at Medway Magistrates’ Court on April 5. He was promptly sentenced to six months behind bars and ordered to pay £291 in compensation.
Nine Theft Charges for Another Suspect
Meanwhile, a separate probe into shoplifting incidents from March 15 to April 4 saw swift action. Staff from the Medway Victim Based Crime Team arrested Lee Swift, 45, from High Street, Chatham, on April 4 after thorough investigations.
Swift now faces nine theft charges and has been conditionally bailed to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on May 10.
