Ex-Sussex Cop Admits Sex Misconduct While on Duty
David Gamlin’s Shocking Breach of Trust
A former Sussex Police investigator, David Gamlin, 58, has pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office after starting a highly inappropriate sexual relationship with a woman he met during a live investigation.
The shocking affair took place between June and September 2021 while Gamlin was still actively serving in the force. He admitted the offence at Southwark Crown Court on Monday, June 30.
Police Force Speaks Out
A Sussex Police spokesperson confirmed the force fully cooperated with the IOPC investigation. They stated:
“We are committed to the highest professional standards. Where individuals fall below those standards, they will be held to account.”
Rising Concerns Over Police Misconduct
This case adds fuel to growing national worries about abuse of power by police officers. Watchdogs have called for tighter safeguards across UK police forces to prevent such misconduct.
