Teen Guilty of Murder in Brutal Clapham Tube Stabbing
A shocking knife attack outside Clapham South Tube station last November has ended in a murder conviction. A 17-year-old boy was found guilty of fatally stabbing student Malcolm Mide-Madariola after a heated confrontation.
Fatal Fight Outside Clapham South Station
Malcolm, also 17, was stabbed multiple times following a scuffle involving two groups outside the station after college. Police were called just after 4.30pm on 2 November 2018, to reports of a stabbing on Balham Hill.
Emergency crews rushed Malcolm to a south London hospital after officers administered first aid, but the teenager tragically died shortly afterwards. A post-mortem revealed he died from multiple stab wounds, including one to the heart.
Knife Linked to Convicted Teen
The weapon used was a hunting knife, traced back to the convicted 17-year-old. The youth was found guilty at the Old Bailey of murder and possession of an offensive weapon. Sentencing is set for 5 July.
Another 19-year-old, Treynae Campbell from Sydenham, was cleared of murder but admitted to carrying an offensive weapon.
Investigation and Police Statement
Detective Chief Inspector John Massey led the homicide inquiry, piecing together CCTV footage and forensic evidence. Three men were initially arrested, with only two facing charges.
“Malcolm was a student at a college in Clapham and had his whole future ahead of him,” said DCI Massey. “The culprit clearly came ready to cause trouble and didn’t hesitate to inflict fatal injuries after a minor dispute.
“This attack, involving a specially purchased hunting knife, is especially sickening. I hope the verdict helps Malcolm’s family begin to heal from this traumatic loss.”
