Man Charged with Terror Offences After Met Raid

A 27-year-old man from Newham was arrested last Friday, April 13, on suspicion of planning a terrorist act. Tonight, Thursday April 19, Ahmed Hussain has been formally charged with three terrorism offences.

Terror Charges Laid

  • Encouragement of terrorism, under the Terrorism Act 2006
  • Two counts of possession of documents useful for terrorism, under the Terrorism Act 2000

Hussain is now remanded in custody. He will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court at 10am on Friday, April 20. The arrest was made by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command (CTC) following a targeted operation.

Woman Arrested and Released

In a related move, police arrested a 24-year-old woman at a North London address on suspicion of holding information about terrorist acts. She was taken to a south London station under PACE rules.

The woman has since been released on police bail, with inquiries continuing into early May.
