Huge Covid Party Crashed by Hackney Cops
Police swooped on a wild Covid rule-breaking bash in Hackney at 3am on Sunday, 7 February. More than 30 revellers were spotted partying around a pair of stacked shipping containers on Trowbridge Road, blasting loud music and causing a ruckus.
Officers Find Packed Crowd but Can’t Arrest
Officers arrived to find the illegal gathering in full swing. They immediately told everyone to leave, but the sheer number of partygoers stopped them from making arrests on the spot. The crowd dispersed, but the damage was done – a blatant breach of lockdown rules.
Organiser Tracked Down and Faces £10,000 Fine
Police launched an investigation and, after some legwork by neighbourhood officers, nailed the organiser. On Tuesday 2 March, the culprit was reported for a potential £10,000 fine.
Chief Inspector Pete Shaw said: “Once again, officers put themselves at risk to deal with inconsiderate people packed into a confined and dangerous space. I’m glad we tracked down the organiser.
“These events risk spreading infection. It’s right we show actions have consequences. This hefty fine sends a clear message: if you organise illegal parties, we will find you and fine you heavily.
“It’s frustrating that almost a year into the pandemic, some still act selfishly despite the terrible human cost.”
