Shoplifter spat in cop’s face and jailed for six months near London Bridge
Baileys bandit caught red-handed
Marc James, 35, was nabbed outside a pub on Monument Street trying to flog a bottle of Baileys with the security tag still clinging on. Police quickly tracked him to a nearby shop on King William Street, where he was arrested.
But it didn’t end there. Inside his trousers, officers found joints of meat also sporting security tags — more stolen goods laid bare.
Officer targeted with spit and assault
James turned nasty during the arrest, attempting to headbutt an officer. Thankfully, his attack missed its mark. The situation worsened when Police Constable Ethan Bullock stepped in and James spat straight into his face.
“I was in shock after it happened and the suspect then continued to resist arrest,” said PC Bullock. “Police officers join the job to serve the public and should be able to do so without the threat of violence.”
“When I arrived on the scene, it was clear the suspect’s intentions were to cause harm. There is no excuse for any kind of abuse and we will hold people accountable for their actions.”
Court clamps down: Six months behind bars
James pleaded guilty to two counts of assault on an emergency worker and theft totaling £102. The court sentenced him to six months in prison for his actions.
Met Police tough on abuse
