Teen Girls Charged with Manslaughter After Elderly Man’s Brutal Bus Stop Attack
Three teenage girls have been charged with manslaughter following the shocking death of 75-year-old Fredi Rivero. The pensioner was viciously attacked at a bus stop on Seven Sisters Road, Islington.
Deadly Assault in the Dead of Night
The horrifying attack happened around 11:35pm on Thursday, February 29. Prosecutors say the teens – aged 14, 16, and 17 – surrounded Mr. Rivero, violently pushing, kicking, and punching him. One of the girls even recorded the brutal assault on her phone.
Emergency services, including Metropolitan Police officers and paramedics, rushed to the scene. Mr. Rivero was taken to hospital but tragically died the next day.
Teens Arrested and Remanded in Custody
The girls were first arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH). After Mr. Rivero’s death, the charges were upgraded to manslaughter.
The trio appeared at Highbury Corner Youth Court on March 3. Prosecutors revealed the teens initially got off a bus, surrounded the elderly man, walked away, then returned to launch their attack.
Chair of the bench Alexia Fetherstonhaugh ordered all three to be remanded in youth detention until their next hearing at the Old Bailey on March 31. Due to their ages, their names are being withheld.
Ongoing Investigation and Public Outcry
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed the investigation is ongoing. Residents in Islington expressed shock and outrage, condemning the attack as a “senseless act of violence.”
