A dramatic roof fire broke out at Faraday House, a three-storey block of flats in Southeast London, late last night. The blaze triggered a rapid response from the London Fire Brigade shortly after 10pm, following calls from alarmed residents who heard smoke alarms and spotted flames on the roof.
Specialist Firefighting Gear Deployed
Firefighters rushed to the scene to find thick smoke and flames engulfing the rooftop. A 32-metre turntable ladder was swiftly brought in to give crews aerial access, enabling them to tackle the fire head-on from above. Hose reels were used to douse the flames, while the elevated platform allowed thorough inspections and safe extinguishing of hotspots.
Residents Evacuated as Smoke Fills the Sky
Witnesses reported seeing thick smoke billowing into the night sky as firefighters battled the blaze. Emergency services quickly cordoned off the area, prompting a temporary evacuation of nearby residents for their safety. Thankfully, the brigade confirmed:
“Crews were 123, and no injuries have been reported.”
Investigation Underway as Residents Return Home
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Residents were allowed back into their homes later in the evening once fire crews declared the building safe. No injuries were reported, and fire crews praised for their swift and effective response.
