Two Charged Over Keyless Car Thefts in Kent
Kent Police have charged two men following a wave of keyless relay car thefts across Kent. The Chief Constable’s Crime Squad launched an investigation after several vehicles were stolen near the M20 last autumn.
30 Cars Snatched Across Kent Towns
Maksims Seluks, 22, and Alminas Satas, 25, both from Dagenham, east London, now face charges of conspiring to steal motor vehicles. The thefts targeted 30 cars across Ashford, Hawkinge, Maidstone, and Tonbridge between 12 October and 30 November 2022.
Seluks also faces a separate charge of possession of a bladed article following an incident in Sittingbourne on 8 December.
Both are due at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on 9 December.
How to Protect Your Keyless Car from Theft
Kent Police warn motorists with keyless entry cars to boost their security and prevent thefts. Drivers should:
- Turn off entry fobs overnight if possible and keep them away from doors and windows.
- Use Faraday bags to block signals between car and key fob—these are available from retailers.
- Keep car keys out of sight from outside your home and always park in well-lit, secure areas with CCTV if available.
- Consider etching your car windows with its registration number or marking the vehicle’s underside with your postcode using an invisible ink pen.
