Teen Brutally Stabbed in Early Morning Attack
A teenager was viciously attacked at 4 a.m. on 3 July 2021 in Lower Stone Street. Three strangers – Paul Ojo, Quinton Nelson, and Kenneth Roberts – confronted him without warning.
Knife Assault and Head Kicks
Roberts threatened the victim with a security stand. Then Ojo plunged a knife into the teen’s chest and abdomen five times. As the victim fell, Nelson kicked his head twice.
The attackers fled before police patrols arrived. The victim was rushed by air ambulance to hospital for emergency treatment.
Quick Police Work Leads to Arrests
- Crime scene investigators found Roberts’ fingerprints on the security stand.
- A taxi driver who picked up the trio after the assault helped detectives track them to Medway.
- On 5 July, all three were arrested at a Gillingham address.
- Burnt clothing, matching Nelson’s outfit at the time, was found in the garden.
- CCTV footage from the scene sealed their fate.
Sentences Handed Down at Maidstone Crown Court
Roberts, 23, of Crystal Palace, pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon. Ojo and Nelson pleaded not guilty but were found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent after an eight-day trial.
On 14 June 2022, Ojo was jailed for nine years and added a two-year licence extension. Nelson received four years behind bars. Roberts was given a two-year, eight-month sentence—suspended for 18 months.
“This was a violent and cowardly attack by three men on a teenager,” said Detective Constable Chris Brett. “They fled the scene, leaving the victim seriously injured. They then tried to destroy evidence by burning their clothes. A thorough investigation led to their arrest and conviction.”
