Burglars Caught Red-Handed and Jailed After Smash and Grab at Longfield Co-Op
Caught on CCTV Moments After Burglary
Two men were nabbed within minutes of breaking into the Co-Op on Station Road, Longfield. Gary O’Brian, 26, and Alex Parle, 27, were caught on CCTV dumping items from a stolen BMW outside the store at around 11.45pm on Sunday, 15 March.
Smash and Grab in Dead of Night
The pair forced their way inside, smashing open the cigarette counter shutters to swipe a stash of cigarettes. They then tried to make a getaway in the stolen car, but police were already hot on their heels.
Police Chase Ends in Arrest
Officers were tipped off by quick-thinking staff who spotted the burglary live on CCTV. When police found O’Brian and Parle a short distance away, the duo rammed a police vehicle in a desperate bid to escape.
Both were arrested at the scene, with cigarettes and a knife found in the car.
Justice Served at Maidstone Crown Court
- Gary O’Brian charged with burglary and vehicle theft, sentenced to 15 months behind bars.
- Alex Parle charged with burglary, vehicle theft, and possession of a knife, sentenced to 19 months in prison.
Detective Constable Katherine Barry said: “Thanks to vigilant shop staff who spotted the burglary on CCTV, our officers acted swiftly to catch these offenders before they could get away. This sends a clear message – we will catch you and lock you up to keep the public safe.”
