Manchester Couple Charged Over Essex Protest Chaos
James Skeet, 34, from Manchester, and Stephanie Aylett, 27, of St Albans, were arrested on April 15 and slapped with charges of aggravated trespass and breaching their bail conditions.
Denied Charges, Jailed Then Granted Bail
The pair denied the charges and challenged the bail breach at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on April 16 but were remanded in custody. They appeared again at the same court on April 20 for a bail hearing.
Both were granted bail but slapped with strict conditions. Skeet must stay in Manchester, while Aylett has to reside in Harpenden. Neither can enter Essex county unless attending court.
Their next court date is set for May 24 at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court.
23 People Charged Amid Essex Disruption
Since April 1, Essex police have charged 23 people connected to a wave of disruption across Thurrock district. So far, only one, 64-year-old Catherine Maclean of Hurstpierpoint, has been convicted. She was fined £409 after admitting aggravated trespass.
Essex Police Chief Issues Stern Warning
“There have been no incidents in Essex since Friday, but we remain ready to act on reports of criminal behaviour,” said Assistant Chief Constable Glen Pavelin.
“We’re not against lawful protest, but disruptive and reckless actions will lead to arrests and court cases. Think twice before causing trouble in Essex.”
“Protest safely. Don’t risk injury to yourselves, the police, or emergency services.”
