Tragic Death of Toddler in Kent Sparks Murder Charges
On 28 November 2020, Kent Police and the South East Coast Ambulance Service rushed to a property in a quiet village after serious concerns for the welfare of a one-year-old boy.
The child was taken to a local hospital but was sadly pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Two Arrested Over Toddler’s Death
That same day, a man and a woman were arrested in connection with the heartbreaking incident. Both were released on bail as Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
Charges Finally Filed More Than Two Years Later
On Monday 6 March 2023, the authorities charged Jack Benham, 34, of Highstreet Road, Hernhill, and Sian Hedges, 26, of Fillace Park, Yelverton, Devon. Both faced charges of murder and causing or allowing the death of a child, after approval from the Crown Prosecution Service.
The pair were remanded in custody ahead of their Maidstone Crown Court hearing scheduled for 1.
