Two seasoned crooks locked up after cheeky Worthing phone shop smash-and-grab
Brazen Hole-Drilling Raid Caught on Camera
Robert Jody May, 51, and Joseph Perry, 42, pulled off a daring break-in at the Three mobile phone store on Montague Street, Worthing. Together, they made off with phones and accessories worth over £36,000. The crime unfolded on the night of March 6, with May drilling through a wall from a neighbouring property to reach the stockroom while Perry acted as lookout outside.
CCTV footage revealed Perry skulking near the Town Centre hours before the smash-and-grab, then both men hurrying to load bags into a taxi. Their slick plan was no match for the police.
Criminal Career Ends With Three Years Behind Bars
Thanks to the sleuths at Worthing CID, May and Perry were busted and hauled before the Crown Court. Both were convicted of burglary and sentenced to three years each.
- May, from Southwick’s Whiterock Place, boasts a rap sheet over 50 convictions and 200 offences, many burglaries, and 25 known aliases.
- Perry, hailing from Northbrook’s Whitebeam Road, carries 22 convictions for 57 offences, mostly theft-related.
Detective Inspector: “Crime Doesn’t Pay”
“Both men went to great lengths to steal mobile phones and accessories in Worthing,” said Detective Inspector Andrew Ricks from Worthing CID. “We understand the impact burglary has on victims and businesses. I’m pleased these prolific offenders are now behind bars.”
This case proves once again how CCTV, forensic expertise, and relentless police work can take down shoplifting gangs. A clear win for local businesses and law enforcement!
