Brutal Bus Stop Brawl: Two Women Jailed for Ruthless Attack in Birmingham
Woman Left Fighting for Life After City Centre Assault
A 20-year-old woman was found collapsed and bleeding on Bull Street, Birmingham, just before 9.40pm on Wednesday, 1 May last year. She was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries after being viciously attacked as she got off a bus in the city centre.
Unprovoked Attack Shocks Witnesses
The victim had been sitting quietly on the bus with a friend when a large group surrounded them near Martineau Place. Suddenly, an unprovoked and savage assault left the young woman in critical condition. She has since suffered lasting brain damage and endured a lengthy rehab programme.
Attackers Caught on CCTV and Sentenced
- Atiyyah Gidden, 21, from Kellet Road, Nechells, was captured on CCTV kicking and punching the victim’s head. After fleeing to Manchester, she handed herself in a month later.
- Gidden was sentenced to 11 years at Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday, 8 April, despite pleading not guilty, claiming the victim had provoked her by ‘staring’ and seeking a fight.
- Savannah Ward, 23, from Wryley Road, Aston, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm and was jailed for eight and a half years last week.
Both women have been locked up for their brutal attack that left a young woman fighting for her life in the heart of Birmingham.
