Hammer Horror: James Hemming Jailed for 12 Years Over Brutal Attack on Teen Girl
James Hemming, 29, has been locked up for 12 years at Portsmouth Crown Court today (Friday, December 2) for a savage hammer attack on a 17-year-old girl.
Brutal Assault in Portsmouth
The terrifying assault happened on April 11 around 7pm at a home on Shearer Road, Portsea. Hemming struck the teenage victim with a hammer, causing serious injuries that left her hospitalised for weeks.
Initially charged with attempted murder, Hemming pleaded guilty to wounding with intent – a plea accepted by prosecutors and police alike.
Massive Police Operation Cracks Case
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Liz Williams described the crime as “horrific” and “heinous.” She revealed the investigation was intense, with up to 80 officers involved and over 1,000 hours of CCTV footage from 250 cameras reviewed.
