Ex-Acting Sgt James O’Sullivan Faces Misconduct Shame Over Lewd Behaviour
Former Acting Police Sergeant James O’Sullivan, once with the North West Command Unit, breached police conduct standards with inappropriate and offensive behaviour. If still serving, he would have been sacked instantly.
Lewd Comments and Explicit Images in NW1 Pub
On 27 July 2020, O’Sullivan was off duty at a NW1 pub with a junior female officer. During the outing, he made grossly inappropriate sexual remarks, showed her an explicit image, and made lewd gestures.
Investigation Followed, O’Sullivan Resigned Under Pressure
The allegations were promptly reported and investigated by the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards. O’Sullivan was placed on restricted duties and eventually resigned on 6 November 2022.
Police Boss Praises Courage of Officers Reporting Abuse
Detective Superintendent Barry Loader, North West BCU commander, said:
“I would like to commend the officers who came forward to report O’Sullivan’s actions. I hope this sends a clear message that inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated in the Police Service.”
O’Sullivan is now on the College of Policing’s Barred List. This blacklist stops him from working with any police force, PCCs, or policing watchdogs, effectively banning him from the profession forever.
