Charity scam shocker! Woman jailed for stealing £1,000 raised in memory of dead baby girl
Fake fundraiser tricks 28 donors
Chanel Bailey, 26, set up a crowdfunding campaign to raise cash for a memorial after befriending a grieving mother whose premature baby tragically died. But instead of helping, Bailey vanished with the £1,000 raised from 28 kind-hearted donors.
Victims left betrayed
The fundraiser was shared on Facebook as the toddler fought a brain tumour before passing away. Bailey claimed she wanted to support the family but used the donated money for herself.
Police slam ‘cunning and manipulative’ con
“Chanel Bailey took advantage of her victims’ pain and the charitable spirit of many people, just so she could treat herself on other people’s hard-earned money,” said a police spokesperson. “The deception was cunning and manipulative and I am pleased the courts recognised this. There is absolutely no excuse for her actions and she is deserving of the prison sentence she will now have to serve.”
Bailey has now been handed a prison sentence for her cruel scam, sending a clear message to charity fraudsters everywhere.
