Arson Attack on Sussex Farms: 18-Year-Old Arrested
A string of deliberate fires tore through Sussex farms last November, targeting roadside barns and hay stocks. Now, Sussex Police’s Rural Crime Team has arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the blaze spree.
Fires Rage Across Four Villages
Between 2 and 7 November 2021, arsonists struck at farms in Beddingham, Alfriston, Tarring Neville, and Litlington. Barns and hay bale stocks were set ablaze in a highly destructive crime that hit the local farming community hard.
Suspect Held and Released Under Investigation
The teenager was arrested on Saturday, 8 January, on suspicion of arson and conspiracy to commit arson. After questioning, he was released under investigation while police continue their enquiries.
“This is a highly destructive crime that impacts our farming community and livestock supplies,” said Sgt Jon Attfield from the Rural Crime Team. “We are appealing for witnesses to any suspicious activity seen in the affected areas from 2 to 9 November last year.”
