Driver Trapped in Dead End, Then Flees on Foot
The car, carrying several passengers, then turned into The Creek—a dead end. Patrols attempted to box it in but failed. The vehicle sped off along Grove Road and Stonebridge Road before being abandoned on Thames Way near an underpass.
Several men jumped out and fled on foot, vaulting fences and disappearing into nearby grassland.
Drugs Seized as Police Launch Hunt
A search of the abandoned car uncovered suspected Class A drugs, cannabis, and mobile phones. Two men caught nearby were detained for questioning but not arrested.
Driver Busted Nearby
Later, officers spotted a 21-year-old man hiding by an alleyway on Station Road at the junction with Railway Street. Believed to be the driver, he was arrested on suspicion of car theft, dangerous driving, failing to stop, and drug driving.
The suspect has since been released pending further investigation as police continue to piece together the full story.
