Undercover Cops Blitz Nightlife to Snuff Out Creeps

Kent Police have launched a tough new initiative using both uniformed and plainclothes officers to patrol hotspots like nightclubs, bars, and pubs. Their mission? To spot and stop predatory behaviour such as sexual harassment, unwanted touching, and lurking.

Plainclothes Officers Spot Abuse, Uniforms Step In

When plainclothes cops identify dodgy behaviour, they call in uniformed officers who step in swiftly. These officers confront suspects and take firm action — including arrests — to nip nastiness in the bud.

The operation runs across the county and also involves engaging vulnerable people with safety advice.

Recent Arrests Show Tactics Are Working

  • Dec 7, Canterbury: A 20-year-old man chatting up lone women was tracked and arrested for a public order offence after police spotted his suspicious behaviour.
  • Dec 15, High Street: Another 20-year-old was arrested on suspicion of public order offences after making inappropriate comments to women.
  • Same night, city centre: A group of boys making lewd comments were warned by police and dispersed, catching a bus home to avoid arrest.

Chief Inspector Vows To Keep Nightlife Safe

“This new tactic, part of the national Project Vigilant, is helping Kent Police ensure everyone feels safe when they go out,” said Chief Inspector Omid Changizi.

“Our team supplements regular patrols and ties in with licensed venue schemes like Best Bar None. We’re focused on protecting our community, especially during the crucial night-time economy.”

“We’re working hard to prevent crime and anti-social behaviour so everyone can enjoy a night out feeling safe and respected.”
