Scam Interceptors Back on BBC to Bust Cyber Crooks
The fight against ruthless cyber scammers is back! Rav Wilding and reporter Nick Stapleton return to the Scam Interceptors HQ, teaming up with ethical hacker and YouTube star Jim Browning to take down fraudsters in their tracks.
Real-Time Sting Operations Against Call Centre Crooks
This new series dives deep into high-tech undercover tactics designed to nab scammers red-handed. The team monitors industrial-scale scams as they unfold, stopping victims from handing over cash. Even better, they track down the shadowy criminals lurking behind anonymous call centres.
With the cost-of-living crisis squeezing wallets, scams from illegal overseas call centres are adding insult to injury, ripping off thousands of pounds from innocent Brits every year. Scam Interceptors couldn’t be more timely.
Inside Scotland’s Ultra-Modern Scam HQ
Basing themselves in Glasgow’s state-of-the-art Pacific Quay hub, the Interceptors use cutting-edge tech to eavesdrop on scammers and gain access to their webcams and CCTV. This full 360° insight means the crooks have nowhere left to hide.
The series exposes some of the nastiest scams, including a chilling transatlantic trick where victims are conned into thinking they owe thousands to US law enforcement. Rav even confronts a suspect accused of leaking genuine loan-seekers’ personal info after victims were scammed into paying fake loan fees.
The team goes further, tracking down vulnerable victims’ families to stop their loved ones from losing cash, and taking on call centres posing as big-name retailers to steal money from the unsuspecting.
Rav Wilding & BBC Praise the Vital Series
“I’m happy to be back with the team educating the public on how to avoid cyber hackers! The new series will take audiences behind the scenes as we confront call centre criminals and successfully intercept high-value scam attempts, saving potential victims thousands of pounds,” said presenter Rav Wilding.
Rachel Platt, Commissioning Editor for BBC Daytime and Early-Peak, added: “Scam Interceptors is returning at the perfect time to raise awareness of these cyber-criminals. Scams make up around 40% of all crime, and two in three of us have been targeted since the start of 2023. It has never been more important to warn viewers and keep them safe.”
Don’t miss Scam Interceptors, weekdays at 10:00am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from Monday 1 May.
