UK Braces for Monster 510-Mile Snowstorm as Temps Plunge to -9C

Epic Blizzard Set to Smother Scotland and England

A massive 510-mile snowstorm is barreling towards the UK, ready to blanket the land from Wick in Scotland all the way down to East Yorkshire. Thick snow and plummeting temperatures will transform huge swathes into a winter nightmare, with the mercury set to plunge as low as a bone-freezing -9C.

Not even cities like Newcastle and Ipswich are safe, expecting a light snow dusting and frosty lows around -6C. Forecasters warn the deep freeze will roll in overnight on January 3, unleashing severe icy blasts across the nation.

Scotland Slams Into Deep Freeze

Perth and Kinross will bear the brunt of the Arctic assault, with temperatures crashing to a bitter -9C. Weather maps are drenched in icy blues as sub-zero chills grip most of the UK.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast for January 3-17 spells it out:

“High pressure will probably be close to the UK at the start of this period, perhaps most likely centred to the west, and whilst this may allow relatively settled and dry conditions with a risk of frost and fog initially, there will be the chance of some occasional wet weather at times, perhaps more especially in the north and east.”

“Given some relatively cold air close to the UK, this may bring the chance of some wintry hazards in places. Towards mid-month, there is the potential for rather more changeable conditions to develop more widely, although confidence in this aspect of the forecast is currently low.”

South West Cornwall Also Faces Arctic Blast

The icy assault won’t just stay in the north. Cornwall, usually known for its mild weather, is gearing up for a chilly shock. Residents across England and Scotland can expect hefty snowfall, ending any hopes of an easy mild January.
