Twitter Bug Blocks Users from Leaving Site or Viewing Images

Twitter is facing a major glitch that’s stopping users from following links or even viewing images. While the site is still live, clicking any link throws up a lengthy error message tied to Twitter’s API – the system that connects the platform with other services.

Links Turn to Blank Blocks, Tweetdeck Goes Dark

Links across Twitter now appear as empty blocks of colour, frustrating users who rely on them daily. Meanwhile, Tweetdeck, the popular pro-tweeter tool, has also crashed – going completely blank alongside the link failures.

API Shake-Up Could Be Behind the Mess

Twitter’s been tinkering with its API recently, aiming to boost revenue. They’ve slashed free API access, effectively killing many third-party apps and clients. A new API rollout, teased by Twitter’s developer account since February, might be behind today’s meltdown.

Despite promises of a “new service coming very soon,” the launch has been delayed multiple times with little clarity on timing. Some speculate Twitter switched off old API access without notice, breaking tools and users’ experience.

Musk Silent as Frustration Mounts

Elon Musk’s Twitter has yet to officially address the outage. The PR team’s been dissolved since Musk’s takeover, leaving many in the dark. Musk has responded to some user tweets but hasn’t directly acknowledged the bug – or confirmed if he’s been hit by the glitch himself.

With outbound links routed through Twitter’s own servers, any API issue cascades, disrupting traffic site-wide. For now, millions of tweeters are stuck staring at blank blocks where their links and images should be.
