Bungling Robbers Snared by Cops in Winchester Heist
Police are hunting for more witnesses after a daylight armed robbery at a Winchester jewellers went pear-shaped this morning.
Robbers Strike at Busy Jewellery Store
Just after 9am, two men sporting motorcycle helmets stormed Justice Jewellers on Parchment Street armed with an imitation gun. A third man waited outside in a van, ready to make a getaway.
Fast Response Sees Trio Arrested
Armed cops from the Joint Operations Unit and dog teams swooped on the scene. Thanks to their swift action, all three suspects were caught red-handed. Two 21-year-olds from Hertfordshire and a 28-year-old Londoner are now in custody. Luckily, no one was hurt.
Jewellery Stolen – But Some Recovered
A haul of jewellery was taken, though police have already found and seized items nearby. Investigations are ongoing as officers comb through the recovered goods.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
“This happened in the middle of the busy city centre with loads of people around,” said Detective Inspector Lee Macarthur.
“We’ve spoken to many witnesses, but we know more are out there. We especially want to hear from two people who saw the robbers sprint into the alleyway.”
